Blog Action Day

On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future. (Snippet from the site for Blog Action Day)

If you are a blogger then you can also get your own blog involved by visiting the following link.

Click To Play

Recently a friend of mine popped up this question of what RSS is and what is the advantage of RSS. Just as an attempt to try it out he registered at feedburner.com and created the RSS of his own site, while his main aim was just to get the feed of a pharma blog to his bloglines account :p. I hope this explains why I've posted this video.

Webpages for Sidebar

This is in continuation of the post by Ajit on his blog.

Read the post here

He has mentioned a method to open webpages in the sidebar. But then you might not want to open pages with heavy content in the sidebar. Infact you might actually waste time rather than saving it in an attempt to handle a normal webpage in the side. So here I mention links of a few webpages that have minimal content and therefore can be very handy.
(You can click on the name of the site to see the type of page that you'll get in the sidebar. Right now it'll open up in a pop-up window but you can make it open in the sidebar using the the script that Ajit mentions or method that follows the links)

GChat : http://talkgadget.google.com/talkgadget/client (already mentioned implicitly in the link on Ajit's blog)
Answers.com : http://mobile.answers.com/
Wikipedia : http://wikipedia.7val.com/
Digg : http://www.diggriver.com
Google : http://www.google.com/m?uipref=3
Technorati : http://m.technorati.com

One thing that he hasn't mentioned (though he was the one to tell me about it) is a simpler way to make bookmarked pages open up in the sidebar. Here is the method :
1. You bookmark the link you want to open up in the sidebar
2. Then you go to the bookmark manager and select the properties of this link that you've bookmarked. In case it is in the personal toolbar then just right click on that bookmark and select properties.
3. In the window that shows up you select the 'Load this bookmark in the sidebar' button.

Thats it. You are done.

Phishing

When you receive a mail/message which contains a link to a well known site where you are asked to enter your login and password. You login and after a few hours or days you realize that the account into which you logged in has been hacked. If this has happened with you then you had been a victim of phishing. And this is most common on yahoo.

Definition on answers.com

Here are a few things that you can do to prevent phishing.
--> Pay special attention to the location bar of your browser. For eg if you are being asked to login with your yahoo account. Even if the copy and page design look like yahoo, double check the URL. If it isn't yahoo.com or www.yahoo.com(or the simmillar onces like yahoo.co.in, yahoo.co.uk etc), it's not Yahoo!.

--> If you are not sure, unable to decide the genuineness of the link then login with a wrong login name or password. In most cases false sites take you to the correct link on doing so.

--> And in case you've logged into such site and then realize that this was a fake site(may be by the webpage you get redirected to after logging in or by intuition or sixth sense :D) then change the password of your account as soon as possible.

The following link has some pics of sites that pretending to be Flickr. But they are not flickr. They are phishing!!
